What is a gait analysis?
Gait is the way in which you move your whole body from one point to another. Most often, this is done by walking, although we may also run. Gait analysis is a method used to assess the way we walk or run to highlight biomechanical abnormalities.
How do we perform a gait analysis evaluation on me?
At every Lucky Feet Shoes location, we have trained pethortists who observe the way you walk, by analyzing your feet, ankles, knees, and hips. During this process, they focus on your feet and ankles to determine your gait.
However, before we go any further let’s make sure you understand that our gait analysis makes up part of our free foot analysis. Not only do we perform a gait analysis for you, but also a digital foot scan, and foot measurement. All three services make up our FREE FOOT ANALYSIS service. During your FREE FOOT ANALYSIS, we will evaluate your gait, digitally scan your feet, and measure your feet.
Full Foot Analysis Service
In-store Free Gait Analysis
By this point, you may be asking, “how is my gait determined?” Your gait is determined based on your foot and ankle movement. We look at your foot and ankle in movement on how your foot makes contact with the ground. There are three types of foot strikes. (see below)

In addition to determining your gait analysis for free, we also provide a free digital foot scan. Our digital pressure mapping system shows us the pressure distribution on your feet while standing. A main cause of pain in the feet is improper pressure distribution. By analyzing your personal pressure distribution, we can offer products that will help evenly distribute pressure across your feet, such as arch supports. |
In-store Free Foot Measurement

During a shoe fitting, our pethortists measure both your feet for length, width and arch length. They measure your feet from both a seated and standing position, allowing them to get an accurate size. After determining your correct size of your feet, we then recommend shoes and insoles that perform best for your individual needs. |
In-store Free Foot Analysis
As previously mentioned, not only do we perform a gait analysis for you, but also a digital foot scan, and foot measurement. All three services make up our FREE FOOT ANALYSIS service. During your Free Foor Analysis, our pethorthists will spend time with you to get an accurate analysis of your feet, which aids them to offer the best footwear solutions for your foot problems.

I do a lot of walking, should I get a free gait analysis?
Many have the misconception that only runners or athletics get foot injuries or foot pain. However, that is not entirely correct. Even though walking doesn’t break a heavy sweat like running or takes less effort, it does place strain your feet. In many cases, walking can open the door to foot injuries, especially when you walk in unsupportive footwear.
